New for 2020: Airless Tractus Tire and Wheel Combo

Thursday, January 9th, 2020
Airless Tractus Tire and Wheel Combo

At Exmark, we build mowers to make lawn maintenance easier and faster for pros and homeowners alike. We know that having to stop and deal with flat tires is more than a minor hassle. For pros, it’s a delay that makes the job take longer. For homeowners it can mean sacrificing your all too scarce free time to get it fixed. We wanted to eliminate flat tires entirely, so we set out on a multi-year development process that involved in-house and field testing. The result: Our new airless Tractus tire and wheel combo.

Exmark’s team found three critical improvements compared to pneumatic tires. Tractus tire and wheel combo do not go flat, meaning less downtime for commercial mowers, and less maintenance for homeowners.

Tractus also provides a similar ride quality to traditional pneumatics tires but offers a longer service life. And while you’re mowing, they provide more consistent ground pressure with a larger contact patch. This reduces turf compaction and provides a better overall cut quality. And the unique tread design offers superior traction in a wide range of turf conditions.

Airless Tractus tire and wheel combos will be available on gasoline powered Lazer Z models beginning in early 2020. Interested in taking them for a test drive? See your local Exmark dealer.

Lazer Z S-Series Now Features a Smart Controller

Monday, January 29th, 2018

At Exmark, we know machine downtime causes real problems for commercial lawn operations. Our new Lazer Z S-Series mowers, equipped with a Smart Controller, provide critical systems information in real-time, reducing downtime by alerting you to any issues with the machine and upcoming maintenance.

The Smart Controller is a large display with a LED status light that notifies the operator if a malfunction has occurred. When the machine is operating normally, the light is green; a red light indicates an active error. An alternating green/orange light indicates a clutch reset is necessary. Other on-screen alerts provide information on fuel level, engine temperature, oil pressure, and charging system status. The Smart Controller also includes a Limp Mode feature, disabling the cutting system and preventing damage to the mower in the event of a critical system error.

The Smart Controller replaces the traditional hour meter, integrating maintenance reminders with run time, so that you know when oil changes, transmission service and other engine maintenance are due. As regular maintenance is crucial to keeping mowers running, maintenance reminders are displayed on a large, easy-to-read digital screen.

In addition to reducing downtime and preventing machine damage due to malfunctions, the Smart Controller can make tracking mower maintenance much easier than manually tracking each machine’s hours against the recommended maintenance schedule. Much like the service reminders on your vehicle, you’re warned of upcoming maintenance needs and can plan for them in advance, rather than waiting until after you’ve hit the hour mark.

Since we know you mow no matter the weather conditions, the Smart Controller is weatherproof to provide dependable operation in rain and extreme temperatures. The ignition key switch is sealed, as is the non-contact PTO switch.

The Smart Controller is available on Lazer Z S-Series models with Kohler EFI gasoline engines and your choice of a 52-, 60- or 72-inch UltraCut Series 4 deck, and on the propane Lazer Z S-Series models, with a 60- or 72-inch UltraCut Series 4 deck. The EFI engines deliver efficient and steady performance, and the propane option will help reduce fuel cost. And, of course, Smart Controller-equipped Lazer Z models provide unmatched operator comfort and Exmark’s signature quality of cut.

To demo a Lazer Z S-Series with Smart Controller, contact your local Exmark dealer. You’ll soon learn why Exmark’s are trusted 2-to-1 by landscape professionals over the next best-selling brand of zero-turn lawn mowers*.

Introducing the 2018 Lazer Z Diesel Zero-Turn Mower with 96” Flex Wing Deck

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

We know lawn care professionals need three things from their equipment: performance, productivity and durability. We’ve raised the bar on all three with the new 2018 Lazer Z Diesel mowers. And we didn’t forget about operator comfort, either.

Lazer Z Diesel mowers make quick work of the largest, toughest jobs, and are a great choice for those who need a versatile, durable and highly efficient mower to maintain vast expanses of turf, or who mow under difficult conditions. Despite high mowing speeds, the Lazer Z Diesel with a 96” Flex Wing deck is the most productive mower Exmark has built, yet retains the signature cut quality of the Lazer Z line.

Exmark engineers designed the Lazer Z Diesel mowers with the engine and the radiator set low in the chassis, creating a lower center of gravity for improved stability. Another design decision was to couple the engine to the transmission, doing away with drive belts. As a result, Lazer Z Diesel mowers have a more robust and efficient powertrain that helps reduce the need for service schedules. For owners, this means maximum uptime and a lower total cost of ownership when compared to similar mowers.

RED Technology-equipped, liquid-cooled Yanmar diesel engines provide the power while operating at reduced levels. A 1.6-liter common rail direct-injection engine is an option on all three models, delivering maximum power and torque. There’s also a 1.3 liter option for delivering responsive power and maximum fuel efficiency. RED Technology works with electronic governors to increase responsiveness and virtually eliminates governor droop. RED Technology also monitors machine health, provides on-screen service alerts, and helps deliver the reduced exhaust emissions necessary to achieve EPA Tier 4 compliance.

The all-new UltraCut Flex Wing deck is available only on the Lazer Z Diesel mowers. A 48” rear discharge center deck with two 24” wing decks uses four matching blades to deliver uncompromising cut quality across the entire 8-foot-wide cut. With the optional mulch kit attached, you won’t have to rake or vacuum, making the mower even more productive. The wing decks flex up and down on uneven terrain to minimize scalping, and with both decks raised, the 96” wide mower can fit in a trailer designed to accommodate 72-inch zero turn mowers. (72-inch or 60-inch UltraCut deck, in side or rear-discharge configurations, are also available.)

We believe operator comfort goes a long way to keeping a mowing team productive, and the 2018 Lazer Z Diesel mowers include a number of technologies designed to increase your comfort and reduce exposure to bumps and vibrations. Isolation mounts provide three-dimensional isolation from vibration in the frame, and the full-suspension operator seat features a scissor-link ball-bearing suspension system, Elastomeric Vibration Control (EVC) stretch fabric base, and custom seat cushion foam for all-day comfort.

Why Switching to Propane Mowers with EFI Could Boost Your Bottom Line

Wednesday, June 8th, 2016

Exmark Lazer Z S-Series Propane

State-of-the-art Exmark EFI-propane mowers offer increased fuel economy and performance, with reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

If you’re looking for ways to increase profit margins for your lawn care business, one option might be to consider switching to propane mowers. On average, it is said that about 9% of production costs for landscape professionals goes toward fuel. Therefore, a move to propane mowers regulated with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI), could help cut your fuel costs and improve your bottom-line.

Increased efficiency — The propane engines on Exmark mowers can increase fuel efficiency by up to 40% for extended runtimes, compared to traditional gasoline-powered mowers. At the same time, historical prices for propane run about 30% less than gasoline. With gasoline prices still low, this may not seem crucial – but if there’s one rule of gasoline prices, it’s that eventually, they always go back up.

EFI with E-Gov technology plays a big part in the efficiency of propane mower engines. Electronic Fuel Injection and E-Gov keep fuel flowing to your engine at a steady rate, even when your mower revs. This prevents engine drop-off when you hit a rough patch or tackle a steep grade. Gasoline mowers with mechanical regulators can be slow to respond to increased demand on the engine. Just as when you drive, an engine that runs at steady rate performs better than one that continually revs up to work harder.

Cleaner and Greener — Propane is remarkably stable over time, and can be stored for long periods. It also burns cleaner than gasoline, reducing build-up and engine maintenance. This means less mower downtime to have your machine in the field longer, and more profit. Another added benefit is lower emissions, which has become more of a selling point with customers.

Quieter — Propane mower engines are quieter to operate than gasoline or diesel mowers, which could let you start earlier and work later than competitors, and reduce the potential for noise complaints from neighboring properties.

For more information on switching your fleet to propane, see Exmark’s whitepaper, or talk to an Exmark dealer near you.

How to Mow Like a Pro

Sunday, May 15th, 2016

(StatePoint) You might not earn your living taking care of lawns, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get the same quality of cut as landscape pros.

For a consistently superior cut, experts say average consumers should look for Exmark Lazer Z E-Series commercial zero-turn mowercommercial grade products.

“Homeowners can also benefit from the performance and reliability a true commercial mower offers,” says Lloyd von Scheliha, product manager at Exmark, a leading manufacturer of lawn care equipment. “You’ll get lawn care done faster and it will look better in the end. Your mower will also last longer and require less maintenance.”

Homeowners should be advised however that the term “commercial grade” is thrown around a lot these days in advertising. If you’re in the market for a new mower, you should understand what commercial grade really means before making a purchase.

“Take a look at the equipment your local landscape professionals are using and you`ll get a good feel for what commercial mowers look like,” says von Scheliha.

He says homeowners should consider the following:

  • Your mower should offer superior durability to stand the test of time. Look for fabricated cutting decks, which are stiffer, stronger and more durable than stamped decks — even reinforced models. The durability advantage should extend to the components as well.
  • Productivity and maneuverability in a mower offer average consumers time-savings, reducing the time that’s needed to cut a lawn, and then do trim work. Consider a zero-turn mower, which delivers a finished appearance more quickly than other mower types.
  • Even a commercial mower will deliver superior results longer if you perform routine maintenance. Always consult your owner’s manual to determine what specific maintenance is necessary for your machine. Cleaning, sharpening or replacing blades as they dull, replacing belts as they become worn, oil and filter changes, and other specific maintenance as outlined in your owner’s manual, will improve equipment performance and longevity.

Exmark Lazer Z Suspended Operator Platform

Exmark has added suspended operator platform-equipped 52-inch Lazer Z E-Series and 72-inch Lazer Z X-Series options to the existing 60-inch options in both models for the 2016 model year.

The suspended operator platform uses three coil-over hydraulic dampers to significantly reduce the impact of bumps and vibration. It provides 3.6-inches of travel in vertical and fore-aft directions, with trailing arms to limit lateral travel and increase operator stability.

Exmark Lazer Z X-Series Suspended Operator Platform

Make long days in the seat a lot less taxing with the suspended operator platform.

“We initially launched the suspended operator platform on 60-inch versions of our Lazer Z E-Series and Lazer Z X-Series mowers, as it’s our most popular cutting deck size,” said Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters. “Almost immediately we began to receive calls, emails and social media messages inquiring about the platform’s availability with other cutting deck widths.

“These new models are the direct result of the feedback we received.”

Exmark Iso-Mount system

Exmark patented Iso-Mount isolation system

The suspended operator platform preserves the performance advantages of that have made the Lazer Z the most popular commercial zero-turn mower on the market, and it significantly reduces the negative effects of mowing rough terrain on the operator. The design is easily adjustable for operator weight and ride quality preference without tools, making it easy to achieve the desired ride quality for any operator. There’s no harsh bottoming, regardless of operator weight, and the design eases access to hydrostatic drive system components, making routine maintenance easier to perform.

Suspended operator platform-equipped Lazer Z models are equipped with a new seat design that uses patented Elastomeric Vibration Control (EVC) stretch fabric and plush foam padding for maximum comfort. In addition, Exmark’s patented Iso-Mount isolation system provides a controlled .75-inch of lateral and .5-inch of vertical isolation to further insulate the operator from bumps and vibration.

How to Get a Great Lawn in Less Time

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

(StatePoint) A stunning lawn is the trademark of most proud homeowners. After all, the front yard is the first thing visitors and passersby see. But achieving and maintaining the perfect landscape can be time consuming without the right tools.

Exmark Lazer Z X-Series commercial zero-turn mowerWant more of your weekends back? Experts say achieving professional-level results in less time starts with the equipment you use to do the job. Take stock of the tools in your garage or shed. Are they up to the task? If you’re spending too much time on the yard, it may be time to make some key upgrades.

The right lawnmower, for example, “is not just an investment in the beauty of your property, it’s an investment in your quality of life,” says Judy Altmaier, general manager of Exmark, a leading manufacturer of mowers and other lawn care equipment. “A faster mower means more free time, plain and simple.”

With that principle in mind, here are a few insights about what to look for when replacing an older mower with a new, more efficient model.

  • Maneuverability: Between trees, flower beds and other landscape features, a mower should be easy to maneuver, so you can mow closer and spend less time with the trimmer.
  • Quality of cut: Not all mowers offer the same quality of cut. When choosing a new mower, take this factor into consideration, as well as the type of lawn and grass you have.
  • Durability: A durable mower will include features such as welded, fabricated cutting decks, commercial engines and heavy-duty welded, tubular steel unibody frames.

For quick guidance, consider taking a cue from those who make a living by being more efficient in the yard – landscape professionals.

“These days, it’s safe to say that zero-turn riding mowers have become the tool of choice among landscape professionals,” says Altmaier.

Those from Exmark, for example, are available at various price points and offer great mower productivity, power and durability. For more information, visit

Exmark Advantage: Hydro Drive System

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016

Exmark Pioneer S-Series zero-turn mower

Exmark hydro drive systems deliver increased reliability, durability and ease of use for landscape professionals and homeowners alike.

The heart of any zero-turn mower is the hydro drive system. It’s the system responsible for controllably putting the power to the ground — undoubtedly an important job.

That’s why Exmark has worked hard to develop innovations that make its hydro drive systems function better, more reliably, with increased long-term durability. Working in partnership with Parker, we designed a unitized pump and motor unit that eliminates all hoses, fittings and potential leak points.

In testing, the Exmark UHT drive system in combination with Exmark Premium Hydraulic Oil has been proven to operate in the toughest commercial conditions while maintaining cooler system temperatures than the “off the shelf” hydro drive systems used by other manufacturers.

Exmark UHT hydro drive system

The UHT hydro drive system on Lazer Z zero-turn riders is designed to work harder, stay cooler and last longer than other hydro drive systems.

With no hoses and fewer parts to wear out, Exmark drive systems are more durable and easier to maintain than traditional drive systems. In fact, with proper preventative maintenance and care, the UHT hydro drive system on an Exmark Lazer Z can deliver 3,000 hours or more of productive mowing. That’s durability you can count on for years to-come!

Features of the Lazer Z UHT hydro drive system include:

Exmark Advantage: Spindles

Wednesday, March 9th, 2016

Exmark Navigator

A half-mowed playing field doesn’t look so good, so this isn’t the time when you want trouble with a blade spindle.

When it comes to what makes an Exmark an Exmark, there isn’t one single thing you can point to and say “that’s it.” Rather, there are countless things — some big, some not so big — that add up to the unmatched performance, productivity and durability you get with Exmark mowers and lawn care equipment.

Today we’ll take a look at the blade spindles: a key feature of Exmark walk-behind, stand-on, and zero-turn riding mowers. Since they’re covered by shrouds atop the cutting deck, they aren’t parts you often think about, unless you’re having trouble with one.

Exmark Series 5/6 blade driver

This UltraCut Series 5/6 spindle cutaway shows the maintenance-free sealed bearings and 30mm splined blade driver, which eliminates impact-related bolt tightening.

If you’re relying on that mower to make your money for the day, that’s not a very appealing option. And even if you just want to mow your lawn, an awesome mower with a bad blade spindle isn’t going to get it done for you.

As a result, our designers, engineers and test crew have spent a lot of time and energy on the blade spindles on our UltraCut cutting decks. The result are spindles that do the vital job of making the blades go around with industry-leading efficiency, durability and low-maintenance.

Exmark uses tough cast aluminum housings with maintenance-free sealed, non-greasable bearing design. 25-30mm splined blade drivers (depending on UltraCut series) eliminate bolt over tightening and the spindles are completely serviceable. Exmark spindles are designed with features that minimize the opportunity for moisture ingression into the spindle assembly and/or bearings. This increases spindle lifespan considerably.
