New hydro-drive walk-behind models deliver increased fuel economy, reduced cost of operation

Exmark has introduced two new EFI-propane wide-area walk-behind models. The new models use groundbreaking EFI-propane Kohler V-twin powerplants on the proven Turf Tracer S-Series and Turf Tracer X-Series walk behind models to deliver significantly reduced cost of operation.

Both Turf Tracer EFI-propane models feature the ground breaking Kohler PCV680 engine.

The new Turf Tracer models utilize new EFI propane Kohler powerplants with an automotive-style closed-loop Electronic Fuel Injection system. Capable of precisely adjusting fuel mixture settings in real-time, the closed-loop EFI delivers improved running and performance, combined with easy, no-choke starting. The increased efficiency of the propane EFI system also increases fuel economy by up to 40 percent.

Both Turf Tracer models include Exmark’s patented Enhanced Control System, which delivers increased operator comfort and productivity with improved mower control ergonomics. In a recent evaluation of the ECS controls versus competitive control systems, University of Nebraska researchers learned that landscape professionals overwhelmingly preferred ECS to all other systems.

Exmark’s premier Turf Tracer X-Series model features the EFI-propane Kohler PCV680 air-cooled V-twin powerplant. With standard heavy-duty canister filtration and turn-key, choke-free electric starting, the Kohler powerplant helps the Turf Tracer X-Series deliver maximum productivity and reliability, along with superior long-term durability. A large-capacity electromagnetic clutch provides smooth engagement and extra-long life.

The EFI-Propane Turf Tracer S-Series features Kohler's ground breaking PCV680 engine.

The EFI-Propane Turf Tracer S-Series is available with a 48-inch UltraCut Series 3 full-floating cutting deck.

The Turf Tracer X-Series is well prepared to easily tackle the toughest jobs and most demanding conditions with a full-floating Exmark UltraCut Series 4 cutting deck. Available in 52- and 60-inch cutting widths, the deck features Exmark’s patented flow-control baffles and is formed from high-strength alloy steel with welded construction. Large-diameter sealed cutter housings with greaseless spindles eliminate maintenance and significantly increase lifespan.

The Turf Tracer S-Series EFI-propane features the Kohler PCV680 EFI propane engine and a 48-inch UltraCut Series 3 cutting deck. The floating deck design virtually eliminates scalping, while an electromagnetic clutch, flat-free semi-pneumatic caster tires and sealed, greaseless spindles provide the durability landscape professionals demand.

Online application uses a QR codes to deliver maintenance schedules, specifications and more

With the launch of MyExmark.com, Exmark has made the process of searching for equipment information dramatically easier. The new application uses QR code scanning technology to give landscape maintenance professionals the ability to quickly learn more about their machines, including information about service, dealers, specifications and more.

A QR code on 2014 Exmark mowers and equipment gives owners a quick new way to access information about their machines.

A QR code on 2014 Exmark mowers and equipment gives owners a quick new way to access information about their machines.

“We launched MyExmark.com to help our customers manage their equipment more efficiently and effectively, and to keep equipment operating at peak performance,” said Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters. “Our 2014 equipment includes a QR code next to the serial number on the model plate. When the QR code is scanned, it takes the owner directly to detailed information about that piece of equipment.”

Using one of the many free QR code scanning applications available for smart phones, Exmark owners can quickly access a wide range of information about their equipment by scanning the QR code located on the model plate, including

  • Equipment specifications
  • Detailed maintenance schedules
  • Contact information and maps to local Exmark dealers
  • Warranty information
  • Special offers from Exmark

When an Exmark owner scans the QR code on a piece of Exmark equipment, they are taken to the MyExmark.com website, and are asked one question: “are you the current owner?” Once ownership is verified, the Exmark owner is taken to a whole new level of product information.

If a QR scanning application is not available, owners can access the same information by entering the serial number of a piece of equipment in at MyExmark.com. The site also tracks all of the Exmark equipment in a fleet, including machines built prior to 2014. If a piece of equipment is sold or retired, its information can be hidden from view. Owners can also report a piece of Exmark equipment stolen on the site.

Coe Wins Exmark and Dream Trip to Help Build Mower…

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

Collierville, TN landscape contractor visits Exmark to watch his mower on the production line

As he watched the bare chassis of his new Lazer Z X-Series zero-turn riding mower moving onto the production line, Tennessee landscape contractor Brian Coe said he still couldn’t quite believe his good fortune.

Coe, owner of Coe Lawn Care, won the new mower, valued at more than $13,000, along with a trip to Exmark’s Beatrice, Neb. headquarters. His name was chosen in a random drawing by Exmark on the final day of the 2013 GIE+EXPO show in Louisville, KY.

In late-November 2013, Coe flew to Nebraska with his father, Gene, to visit Exmark where they received an in-depth tour of the company’s production line and testing facilities.

Coe said one highlight of the trip was the opportunity to participate in the manufacturing of his mower on the Exmark production line.

“To see how much research and testing Exmark does on their products was incredible. And it was really great to be able to help on the production line as my mower was being built.

“What made it even better was the fact that, prior to this I didn’t know my dad was from Nebraska, or that my sister was actually born in Lincoln. While we were there, we drove by the house where my mom and dad used to live.”

Located just 40-miles from the Exmark factory in Beatrice, Lincoln is not only the Nebraska State Capital, it is home to a number of Exmark employees. It was also where Gene Coe and his young family spent its early years.

Coe's Lazer Z X-Series mower was personalized with a custom name plate.

The timing of his new Lazer Z X-Series mower worked out very well, Coe said. He was in the market for a new zero-turn mower for the 2014 season and the Exmark was one of the brands at the top of his list.

Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters, said he was proud the mower could go to an owner-operator like Coe, as he’s an example of why Exmark is never satisfied with the status quo.

“All of us at Exmark are committed to helping landscape professionals like Brian increase productivity and decrease operating costs,” Walters said. “We were honored to host Brian and his father, Gene, in Beatrice, and we’re proud to welcome Brian and Coe Lawn Care into the Exmark family.”

Upon completion of manufacturing, Exmark shipped Coe’s new Lazer Z X-Series mower to him in Tennessee.

Exmark Helps the National Mall Go Green

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

In late June, Exmark’s Garry Busboom traveled to Washington D.C. to represent Exmark in a ceremony where six propane-fueled Exmark Lazer Z S-Series zero-turn mowers were donated to the National Mall and Memorial Parks (NAMA). The new alternative-fuel mowers, donated by the Propane Research & Education Council (PERC), replace NAMA’s fleet of diesel-powered mowers.

greenmower_11sm

Not only will the new EFI-propane Lazer Z S-Series mowers reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50-percent per mower, they will also lower operating costs through increased fuel efficiency along with the lower cost of propane fuel. The deployment of the mowers has also contributed to NAMA’s ability to be added to the Green Parks Plan, a National Park Service initiative to implement sustainable practices, reduce dependence on foreign oil, mitigate effects of climate change and reduce energy consumption.

“I was proud to be a part of the National Mall ceremony on behalf of everyone at Exmark,” said Busboom, the company’s chief development engineer. “Seeing the EFI-propane Lazer Z mowers starting up for the first time on the Mall was truly awesome and it’s a great feeling to know our mowers are contributing to achievement of NAMA’s larger environmental and sustainability goals.”

The four 72-inch and two 60-inch Lazer Z S-Series zero-turn mowers will make up one-third of the mower fleet on the National Mall. The cost-savings and environmental benefits the groundskeepers at NAMA now enjoy are competitive advantages any landscape professional can enjoy with a similarly-equipped Lazer Z S-Series mower. The electronically fuel injected (EFI) Kohler Command Pro powerplant is the first of its kind to use automotive-style propane fuel injection to increase fuel efficiency by up-to 25-percent and allows Exmark to deliver the greenest, most fuel efficient mower, with the lowest operating cost of any mower on the market today.

greenmower_06sm

Due to the fuel efficiency of the new EFI Kohler powerplant, the new Lazer Z S-Series needs just one 10.3-gallon propane tank, compared to most competitors’ two-tank systems. This not only significantly improves balance and handling but also allows the mower to be more compact. NAMA will use a propane cylinder exchange system from local supplier, Thompson Gas.

PERC’s donation of the six Exmark mowers is valued at approximately $70,000.

The ECS controls – do believe the hype

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Landscape professionals have often said there’s a lot to love about Exmark mowers.  But there’s only one feature that has inspired something of a movement. It might even border on a cult following.  The ECS controls. Yep, landscape pros are crazy about our exclusive controls.

For those who aren’t familiar with ECS controls, here’s the lowdown on this popular feature:

Ergonomics play a major role in the controls’ design. With ECS, the arms are in a more neutral position so the operator’s joints are in a natural state. With his elbows resting at his side and his arms extended out in front of him, the operator can walk up to an ECS unit and start using it without having to adjust the way he’s standing. This means he’ll experience less strain and hand fatigue. Simply put, using ECS won’t be a pain in the neck. Or hands. Or shoulders.

If you’re used to the old handles, you’ll notice that ECS handles are positioned closer together, keeping hands out of harm’s way and accidents from happening.

Comfort and safety are only a couple of reasons why the ECS controls have caused quite a buzz in the landscaping world. But to truly get it, you’re just going to have to try them out for yourself.

How-to Buy Your Next Exmark Mower

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Here’s a post for the Exmark newbies.  As you prepare to purchase your next mower in 2011, we want you to be informed and prepared. So we’ve put together a short guide to help you pick out the right Exmark mower for the job. You’ll want to meet with your local Exmark dealer as well, but this will at least get you headed in the right direction.

Budget

The first thing you want to keep in mind, when purchasing your new Exmark, is your budget. You need the most dependable and durable mower that you can afford. Exmark has many mowers to suit any budget or mowing needs. Interested in learning how you can finance your next Exmark retail mower? David Adams, Exmark Financial Services Manager, explains the process in our latest YouTube video.

Mowing properties

The next thing you’ll want to consider, is what kind of properties you’ll be mowing. Smaller residential lawns require smaller mowers like the new 36″ Vantage or Commercial 21, but for larger commercial properties you’ll want to go with a zero-turn mower like the Lazer Z.

For properties under a 1/2 acre we’d recommend:

  • Vantage
  • Commercial 21
  • Metro
  • Viking
  • Turf Tracer

For properties above a 1/2 acre, we’d recommend:

  • Quest
  • Pioneer
  • Navigator
  • Lazer Z

Mower Engine and Features

After you’ve considered your budget, lawn size and terrain, you’ll want to look at your next Exmark mower for the engine and features offered. All Exmark models come with a variety of engine types and configurations (including eco-friendly models) and mower accessories (like mulching and striping kits). Still not sure what you’d like?  You can check out the “Not Sure What to Buy” section of exmark.com or the Compare Mowers section here.

Our Motivation Behind the First Lazer Z

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Lazer Z X-SeriesIt’s hard to believe that the Lazer Z has been around for more than 16 years. Back in May 1994, when we first started working on the best-selling mower, we wanted to fill a hole in the marketplace. Mowers of that time were big machines that lacked productivity and reliability. They wasted time on the grass and wasted valuable space on trailers. So we decided that our mower wasn’t going to be just productive and reliable, but it was going to be a machine that would deliver an unmistakable cut. It would also be a machine that minded its space.

But before we rolled up our sleeves and cranked up the factory floor, we put on our comfy shoes and traveled to some of our territories to hear firsthand what pros want in a mower.

With feedback in hand, we headed to Beatrice and started building our vision. More than a year later, the very first Lazer Z rolled off the line. It was the first mid-mount mower to provide a quality cut with every job, and to do it in less time. It was a mower that wasn’t just productive, but extremely reliable. It was the first machine to take up less trailer space, allowing room for the rest of the fleet. It was truly a product that revolutionized the industry; it changed how a landscape pro mowed.

Of course the Lazer Z of today is different from its humble beginnings, but not by much. We transformed and improved on a few of its features, but we kept the productivity, reliability and quality of cut just as impressive as the original model.

It’s been a long, rewarding road. One we would travel on if we had to do it all over again.

Do you remember your first Lazer Z? We’d love to hear from you.

The Exmark Vantage

Vantage

The new Vantage featuring a 36" cutting deck

It’s been more than a year since we introduced the Vantage. During that time, we’ve continued to tweak and make the Vantage one of the most comfortable, reliable and productive stand-on mowers in the industry.

This year, we’ve made a few additions to the mower. The first addition is a new 36″ Vantage with the UltraCut Series 3 cutting deck technology. This new 36″ unit makes getting in and out of gates easier and comes with integrated tie-down points for secure trailering.

We’ve also added a new fuel efficient option to the Vantage product line — a 25 hp Kohler Command Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) Pro V-Twin engine.

Of course both of the new options available will still have the standard great stuff you’ve come to love about the Vantage including;

  • Speeds up to 8 mph forward and 4 mph reverse
  • Self-compensating suspension makes standing more comfortable
  • Adjustable platform for mowing hill sides and fold up ability allowing for walk-behind functionality
  • Heavy duty canister air filtration system

If you have time in the next few months, we encourage you to test out the new 36” Vantage and tell us what you think.
