Online application uses a QR codes to deliver maintenance schedules, specifications and more

With the launch of MyExmark.com, Exmark has made the process of searching for equipment information dramatically easier. The new application uses QR code scanning technology to give landscape maintenance professionals the ability to quickly learn more about their machines, including information about service, dealers, specifications and more.

A QR code on 2014 Exmark mowers and equipment gives owners a quick new way to access information about their machines.

“We launched MyExmark.com to help our customers manage their equipment more efficiently and effectively, and to keep equipment operating at peak performance,” said Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters. “Our 2014 equipment includes a QR code next to the serial number on the model plate. When the QR code is scanned, it takes the owner directly to detailed information about that piece of equipment.”

Using one of the many free QR code scanning applications available for smart phones, Exmark owners can quickly access a wide range of information about their equipment by scanning the QR code located on the model plate, including

  • Equipment specifications
  • Detailed maintenance schedules
  • Contact information and maps to local Exmark dealers
  • Warranty information
  • Special offers from Exmark

When an Exmark owner scans the QR code on a piece of Exmark equipment, they are taken to the MyExmark.com website, and are asked one question: “are you the current owner?” Once ownership is verified, the Exmark owner is taken to a whole new level of product information.

If a QR scanning application is not available, owners can access the same information by entering the serial number of a piece of equipment in at MyExmark.com. The site also tracks all of the Exmark equipment in a fleet, including machines built prior to 2014. If a piece of equipment is sold or retired, its information can be hidden from view. Owners can also report a piece of Exmark equipment stolen on the site.

Farmers in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin selected as winners of Successful Farming contest

Three Midwest farm families will be mowing in style, thanks to Exmark and Successful Farming magazine. As winners of the Successful Farming ‘Farm Beautiful’ contest, each of the three families has received a new Exmark Lazer Z X-Series zero-turn riding mower.

The winners of the 2013 Farm Beautiful contest were: Dave and Nikki Heying of Granville, Iowa; Wayne and Laura Dahl of Dawson, Minnesota; and Dennis and Marian Lichtenberg of Clintonville, Wisconsin.

The Heying family received their new mower from their local Exmark dealer, Sheldon Power in Sheldon, IA. The Dahl family worked with Steve’s Equipment in Montevideo, MN, while Weyer’s in Kaukauna, WI delivered the Lichtenbergs their new Exmark.

As part of the deliveries, representatives demonstrated the safe operation of the Lazer Z mower to each family. They also stressed the importance of always securing the operator lap belt and mowing with the Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS) in the up position.

The Lazer Z X-Series zero-turn mower each family won features a 60-inch cutting deck and powerful Kawasaki V-twin commercial engine. It gives them the same power and productivity landscape professionals rely on every day, and will significantly reduce the time required to maintain their properties.

Exmark’s Daryn Walters said that, in addition to increased productivity, the new mowers deliver the company’s signature quality of cut and include Exmark’s latest patented technologies to increase operator comfort.

“We developed our exclusive Exmark Comfort Seat with patented technologies to effectively isolate the operator from vibration and impacts. Research indicates a direct correlation between operator comfort and productivity, and because of this, we place a high priority on making Exmark mowers as comfortable as possible.”

The Farm Beautiful contest is an annual contest hosted by Successful Farming magazine. Ninety entrants submitted up to 12 photos and 500 words describing the farmstead, including history, how the land was developed and how the layout of the property accommodates farming activities. Entries were judged using a four-point criteria which included appearance, strategic layout, overall state of maintenance, and creative use of landscape in a farmstead setting.

Successful Farming staff selected the three winners.

Dave and Nikki Heying had Exmark dealer, Sheldon Power, add a number of accessories including an UltraVac collection system, before taking their Lazer Z X-Series mower home.

A GIE+EXPO Preview From Lawn & Landscape’s Chuck Bowen

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Chuck BowenTo get ready for GIE+EXPO, we chatted with Chuck Bowen, editor of Lawn & Landscape, to see what he is looking forward to at this year’s event.

What do you hope to see this year at GIE?

It’s a great opportunity to have some face-to-face with people I typically only talk to on the phone or via e-mail. And, it’s always exciting to see all the new products that suppliers release.

What trends do you think we’ll see in new products?

As far as equipment goes, we’re seeing more and more alternative fuel options coming down the pike. Fuel prices are only going to go up, and contractors are more willing – and have more reliable options – now to explore electric and propane-fueled equipment.

What will be the trend in 2011 for products/Landscape Pros? Dealers?

They say the recession is over, but people are still having a hard time. Customers still want more for less, and, for dealers, their contractor customers have a similar outlook. Everyone’s being a little more reluctant to buy, and doing more homework before they sign off on projects or big purchases. So, whether you sell service or hard goods, you really have to make your case to customers that you’ll be a good investment or save them money in the long run.

Whose booth should you definitely stop by?

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say ours – number 1084. We’ve got a lot of great stuff for the industry, namely our new scholarship program. You can donate as little as one dollar, pick up a wristband and, if we take your picture wearing it, you’ve got a chance to win some pretty amazing prizes, like a week in Hawaii or a Caribbean cruise.

But I always encourage people to visit the outdoor demo areas. It’s a great way to get up close and personal with lots of equipment and see if it really does what you need it to.

Are you looking forward to the concert this year? What acts would you like to see open the show next year?

They always have great acts come to Fourth Street and put on an entertaining show. Looking at my schedule, I don’t think I’ll be able to make the concerts this year, but I encourage everyone to attend. Keynotes are good, but a big part of the show is networking and relaxing with your colleagues.

What do you think we’ll see more of next year (industry-wide)?

More and more companies are looking for ways to set themselves apart from their competition, and we’ll see more creative ways of doing that. The best companies and dealers know their niche and how to thrive in it, regardless of the economy.

How has the industry changed in the last year?

Companies are smaller and younger – they’re making lower revenues and have been in business for less time. We’ve seen a correction, and there’s been lots of turnover and change. This sets the stage for more competition and really ups the ante for companies to compete at a much higher level.

What’s your favorite thing about Kentucky?

Definitely the bourbon. No, I can’t just pick one thing. It’s a great state – it has beautiful scenery, friendly people and great cities. Whenever I’m in Louisville I make sure to have breakfast at Lynn’s Paradise Café and grab a drink at the lobby bar at the Brown Hotel.

What are you looking forward to at GIE+EXPO 2010? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Keeping your mower safe.

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

While doing some research online, we came across a very interesting post by a part-time landscape pro, Sherri Joubert.

In her post, she talks about the fact that mower theft is on the rise. We were actually quite shocked to read what Sherri’s discovered is behind these thefts.

Sherri writes that the slumping economy and the rising unemployment rate are forcing those who are out of work to find alternative means of making money so they can provide for their families. Basically, some people are stealing mowers to start their own landscaping businesses.

Those caught in-the-act explained they were planning on returning the mowers once they’d made enough money to buy their own used equipment.

At this point we started thinking about your mower security.

To keep your mowers, well, yours, there are a few steps you can take to protect them:

  • Make sure your stored equipment is hard to get to. Reinforce your locks with heavy-duty chains.
  • Don’t leave any of your equipment unattended curb-side, even if you’re taking a quick lunch break.
  • Buy a covered trailer or a trailer with high walls.
  • Always check to make sure locks are secure.

Our final piece of advice on what you might do comes from Sherri’s own personal experience. Instead of putting her mower under lock and key, she rents her equipment for a nominal fee to a single mom in the neighborhood. The mom has access to the mowers on days Sherri is off.

Within the last couple of months, the mom saved enough money to buy her own equipment, something she couldn’t have done without Sherri’s compassion. That’s pretty powerful stuff.

What do you do to keep your mower safe? Leave your comments below.

An Update on the Exmark Outdoor Tour.

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

We used to get asked all the time what we were doing at fishing, hunting and boating shows. Reels, guns and boats, that’s the kind of stuff you’d expect to see there. But a mower? It seemed odd…at first. Now a lot of Exmark users stop by our booth to tell us how much time they saved with their mowers. And there’s the connection.

If you’ve ever used an Exmark, then you know just how productive these babies are. So whether you’re mowing for a living or mowing your backyard, you can count on the job being done as efficiently as possible. For some of you, this means you can get back to fishing, hunting or boating before the day is done.

Our goal is to be the booth that’s buzzing with activity at all times–from entering our Grand Gear Giveaway Sweepstakes, to video games for the kids to giving away cool gifts to all those who stop by. If you’re the outdoorsy type, then you know that Cabelas is one of the places to go for an impressive selection of gear.

Our presence at outdoor shows is now expected. People love seeing us there. They love to stop by and ask a lot of technical questions. And we love talking with them and sharing our passion for the outdoors. These folks really appreciate quality and craftsmanship in a machine. We can definitely understand that.

GIE+EXPO 2009

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Last fall, a handful of Exmark representatives were in Louisville, Ken., at GIE+EXPO, the largest tradeshow for the industry. While there, we unveiled our next generation of mowers. These four units complement Exmark’s already impressive lineup of professional-grade mowers, some of which have been enhanced for 2010 themselves.

Throughout the next few posts, Exmark representatives will take you through each of our new units. I’m anxious to hear your thoughts on what’s next from Exmark.
